6 Steps to Take After Your Personal Information Has Been Compromised

Guest Blog by Christina Keairnes, Strategic Partnerships Leader, Norton LifeLock Benefit Solutions

Your Personal Info Has Been Exposed … Now What?

National Public Data Breach Has Affected Nearly 3 Billion Records

The recent National Public Data breach has impacted millions of Americans. Social Security numbers and other financial information comprising 3 billion records may have been compromised. This attack emphasizes the need for strong identity theft protection, device security and online privacy measures to safeguard your clients’ worksite employees.

What Happened?

National Public Data (NPD), a background-check company, reported a data breach in April that exposed the personal information of millions of individuals in the U.S., Canada, and the UK. This breach, one of the largest ever recorded, compromised Social Security numbers, names, addresses and more. Victims, unaware their information was even collected by NPD, are now at risk of identity theft.

There’s a 75% Chance an Individual’s Social Security Number is Exposed

It’s crucial to remind clients about the importance of providing identity theft and cybersecurity benefits to their employees. With a LifeLock with Norton Benefit Plans, worksite employees are equipped with tools to respond if their information is compromised. They’ll receive alerts if fraudulent activity is detected or if their data appears on the dark web. In cases of identity theft, a U.S.-based Identity Restoration Specialist is available to assist.
