If you build it …
When you hear about remote construction and remote skilled labor jobs, you realize pretty quickly the workforce is changing.
Quickly and often profoundly, too.
Much of today’s reimagined workplace is being constructed with younger employees in mind. That’s because, as Julie Lee—a director at Harvard Alumni for Mental Health—told the Washington Post: “What Gen Z wants is to do meaningful work with a sense of autonomy and flexibility and work-life balance, and work with people who work collaboratively.”
While Gen Z doesn’t mind the nuts-and-bolts concept of going into the office regularly as much as cohorts from previous generations, the option of being able to work remotely is still obviously very appealing to younger workers.
Not every job can be remote, of course. You probably wouldn’t want a health care facility based in a living room, right? Nearly 22% of companies allow workers to do their jobs fully remotely. Compare that with the 33% of companies that require employees to go into work every day, according to the U.S. Career Institute. In the post-COVID world, the balance is certainly shifting.
Want more evidence of a changing workforce? Just think about the jobs that didn’t even exist a decade ago, such as driverless car engineer and cybersecurity analyst with artificial intelligence (AI) expertise.
Many technological advancements are emerging to help make work easier and more intuitive, including Advanced Data Access and custom report building. Guess what isn’t getting any easier? Compliance. States like California, for example, require private employers with 100 or more employees to file an annual report for each employee and contractor or face a $100 per employee fine the first time and $200 the next time. This is required even if a company has only one employee in the Golden State!
Enter Workforce Management
Because of all the compliance complications, integrated solutions like PrismHR’s new Workforce Management solution become such a valuable tool. And compliance is just the first rung of the ladder.
With all the data you need at the tip of your fingers plus the ability to easily manage schedules, handle overtime and even eliminate or minimize buddy punching (more on that in a future post), it’s a win for you, your clients, and worksite managers and employees.
Here are some of the features Workforce Management offers:
- Time & Attendance: With Workforce Management, companies can implement break automation to ensure worksite employees are taking their scheduled breaks. There is also a break waiver capability if the situation warrants it, which is important for compliance purposes. Geofencing ensures workers are punching in and out from the place(s) they are supposed to, which is designed to combat payroll-related fraud. The system is ideal for accommodating the modern trend of more people working remotely as well. With mobile technology, WSEs can clock in and out from any location they can get a Wi-Fi or mobile signal, which covers most of the country. It also allows for custom break scheduling, so your clients can manage if any given breaktime should or should not be paid.
- Scheduling: Workforce Management offers lots of great scheduling features, but the power tools are definitely the auto-scheduling and recommendation engine. Why spend hours with pen and paper trying to figure out schedules when the software can do that for you? Your clients can adjust as needed, but having those recommendations in their hands makes scheduling easy whether it’s five workers or 500. For employees, it’s easy to request shifts, and it’s click-of-a-button easy for managers to approve them.
- Time Off Requests: Paid Time Off (PTO) requests and management shouldn’t be stressful for your clients. Keeping track of days off and vacation time is easy to tighten up with Workforce Management. In addition, the software comes with an advanced accruals engine to simplify the creation of leave policies.
- New Client Setup: Every company knows that employee onboarding can be a challenge for the employer and the employee. Workforce Management’s setup wizard helps an organization get up and running quickly by helping companies tighten processes with automated procedures.
