Product Manager Kara Wepfer has been at PrismHR for almost 7 years. Before joining PrismHR, she worked at a PEO and a consulting firm specializing in HRIS analysis and systems selection.
This broad knowledge of the HR field and various HRIS systems, along with her creative and process approach, has helped her bring several impactful features to the PrismHR platform, such as Spanish language support for Onboarding and the Benefits Enrollment bulk creation tool.
What was your background before coming to PrismHR?
I was working at a PEO in the HR Department, and it just so happened to be during the time we were converting to PrismHR. As part of that implementation, I trained internal teams on the software and learned firsthand how the PrismHR software is used daily to complete tasks.
After this experience, I found I really loved technology and how it can impact business, so I became a Solutions Consultant for a consulting firm, where I gained knowledge of a wide array of HRIS systems in the market.
What interested you in PrismHR Product Management?
I had always enjoyed working with the people at PrismHR when I was a customer and felt that the PrismHR software was the best in the market – they cared about their customers and I wanted to be a part of it. Product Management sparked my interest because I think analytically as well as creatively to implement features that solve real-world problems.
What is your favorite part of being a Product Manager at PrismHR?
Collaborating with customers to learn their needs and working with our internal teams like development and UX to bring the customer point of view into the development process.
I find it very rewarding to bring new features to our customers to solve real problems and to improve existing features. It’s great to see the value of what we are delivering. I like that I have an impact every day working in Product Management.
What projects are you currently working on that you would like to share with our customers?
We are working on a way for new hires to be onboarded without a social security number, giving our customers more security over PII and streamlining employee onboarding by eliminating the need for a special process to get the Social Security number.
We are also bringing Spanish language support to the Benefits Enrollment process, building off the Spanish onboarding that was introduced last fall, bringing full circle the entire employee experience for Spanish speaking employees.
Tell us about yourself outside of work
I am married to a schoolteacher and have a little boy who is 1.5 years old. We also have 2 dogs, a cat, and a fish. There is never a dull moment at my house, and we are in the process of building a new house, which I am enjoying very much. I’ll gladly accept any pointers for the building process!
We like to spend our free time going to new restaurants, getting together with friends and being outdoors. I also enjoy crafting and DIY projects, especially making Cricut crafts such as custom t-shirts, mugs, and signs. I am from Wisconsin, so I’m a huge Packers fan and I enjoy fantasy football – especially when I win!
