How AI Can Enhance the Employee Experience

Guest Blog by Joana Campa, Director of Marketing, HiringThing
Employee experience is a key topic for HR professionals. It encompasses the entirety of an employee’s journey at a company, aiming to provide value and foster productivity, innovation and engagement.
Employees are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their employee experience. Currently, 50% of American workers use AI in some capacity, and 90% of companies are investing in more AI-focused tools.
Workers want AI to help them work smarter. According to Gartner, 70% of employees seek AI solutions to reduce mistakes, solve problems, gather information and simplify processes.
Working smarter is crucial to a great employee experience. In this blog, we’ll explore tangible ways AI can strengthen it.
Why is Employee Experience so Important?
An employee’s experience significantly impacts engagement and retention, directly affecting productivity, innovation and an organization’s bottom line. Gallup found that:
- 60% of employees consider having a job that lets them do their best work “very important” when evaluating new opportunities.
- Only 2 out of 10 employees strongly agree their performance is managed in a way that motivates them to excel at their jobs.
- About half of U.S. employees are actively seeking another job at any time.
- “Engagement and culture” are a top reason employees leave a job.
For years, aspects like hiring, onboarding and benefits have been analyzed as reasons for employee retention or turnover. However, the entire HR process affects employees, which highlights the importance of a holistic approach to employee experience.
How AI Can Improve the Employee Experience
AI Can Improve Operational Efficiency
AI can monitor and analyze processes and data to identify patterns and trends that impact businesses. It can make predictions and suggest improvements to boost productivity or employee satisfaction gaps. Satisfied workers are 13% more productive.
AI Can Help People Check Their Bias
Bias is a major reason job interviews fail. LinkedIn found that 42% of talent acquisition professionals say biases have prevented them from effectively selecting candidates. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) found bias is the top cause of hiring mistakes, leading to wrong or toxic hires. Reducing bias can help diversify the workforce, a factor 78% of hiring professionals consider the top trend impacting their hiring practices.
AI can help by screening candidate profiles and résumés based on objective data, reducing the untested assumptions, biases and feelings people inherently bring to the hiring process.
Generative AI Can Save Employees Time
The average worker spends up to 50% of their time on nonstrategic, administrative tasks. Generative AI (tools to create new content) can help reclaim much of that time by producing and enhancing written content—emails, landing pages, reports, etc.—allowing employees to focus on more strategic initiatives. As employees interact more with generative AI, it can tailor recommendations and content to their styles and roles.
