Re:    Important Deadlines Approaching

We've heard from several clients about filing deadlines that are looming on the horizon.  Here's a short summary that may help in your year-end planning regarding three key deadlines:

EEO-1 (Employer Information Report)

Deadline is September 30th.

Employers with either 1) 100 or more employees, or 2) 50 or more employees and $50,000 or more in federal contracts, are required to report by gender and job classification, the ethnic and racial composition of your workforce.  The report is filed with the Joint Reporting Committee of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.  Sample forms, filing instructions, and questions & answers are available at http://www.mimdms.com/jrc.html.  If you're a first time filer, you can register at the same site to be added to the JRC database to receive forms and special instructions.

VETS-100

Deadline is normally September 30th, but the DOL’s Federal Contractor Program Manager has extended this year’s deadline to November 1, 2002 for those needing additional time to file.

Employers who are Federal contractors with contracts for $25,000 or more, REGARDLESS of how many employees they have, must file the VETS-100 form on which you report the number and job classifications of veterans you employ.

Forms, instructions, and the letter summarizing the deadline extension are available at http://vets100.cudenver.edu/ .

HIPAA Privacy Rules Compliance Plan

October 16, 2002 is the deadline to obtain a one-year extension of time for complying with HIPAA's rules for electronic medical and personal (EDI) transaction standards.

HIPAA affects all health plans including self-insured, full or partially insured, federal programs like Medicare and Medicaid, and all health care providers.

Information regarding the new regulations is available at http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa .
